PORT OF LE HAVRE SIGNS 366-MILLION-EURO EXPANSION CONTRACTS

   The Port of Le Havre Authority has awarded contracts for the construction of the “Port 2000” container terminal project and related infrastructure.

   The first contract for the construction of the breakwater and digging of the channel, amounting to 244 million euro ($224 million), was signed with a group of companies comprising GTM-Construction, Campenon-Bernard, Dumez-GTM and Dredging International, the Belgian dredging company.

   A second public sector contract for the construction of four berths, worth 122 million euro ($112 million), was signed with Soletanche-Bachy.

   The Port 2000 project is intended to accommodate the biggest containerships in the French port. The first phase of the project will be operational in mid-2004.
