Port of Long Beach’s container throughput rises 14% in May

   The Port of Long Beach handled 644,066 TEUs in May, up 14 percent compared to 564,886 TEUs handled in the same month last year.

   Import container volume at Long Beach increased 14 percent to 328,314 TEUs, from 288,031 in May 2005. Exports improved 8.6 percent to 115,158 TEUs from 106,034 TEUs. The number of empty containers increased 17.4 percent to 200,594 TEUs.

   After five months, the total number of containers shipped through the Californian port has risen 9.6 percent to 4.67 million TEUs.
