The Coast Guard captain of the port for Miami allowed vessel traffic to resume from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday. But there will be no vessel traffic during the day today as salvage crews attempt to bring up the fuselage of the downed plane.
The plane scheduled to fly from Watson Island, located across from the Port of Miami, to Bimini, Bahamas crashed into Government Cut, the main channel into the port, shortly after takeoff.
Port Capt. James Maes said there is now no anticipated time for full reopening of the port to vessel traffic. Commercial and recreational vessels will be allowed to transit Government Cut during the night on a limited basis coordinated through the Coast Guard Command Center and the Biscayne Bay Pilots.
