Port of Oakland’s box volumes up 11% in 2005    The Port of Oakland, North America’s fourth-largest port in 2004, saw an 11 percent rise in container volumes in 2005 to 2.27 million TEUs, from 2.04 million TEUs in 2004.
   Loaded inbound containers rose 20.3 percent to 835,485 TEUs, from 694,314. Outbound containers improved 4.1 percent to 846,834 TEUs, from 813,716. Empties increased 9.4 percent to 590,206 TEUs, from 539,474 in 2004.
   Recently, Hanjin Shipping and Norasia Container Lines have added direct calls to Oakland on their respective weekly China America Express and round-the-world loops.
   In 2004, Oakland ranked fourth in volume behind Los Angeles, Long Beach and New York-New Jersey.
