| A load of royal palm trees grown in Florida is lifted onto a vessel bound for Angola. Some 3,000 trees were shipped to Africa for a community development project. |
Port officials said a venture started last week which will bring 100-ton power modules from Korea, with the first shipment representing the beginning of a two-year operation.
The shipment last week involved 21 modules, measuring up to 42 feet in length. The modules were off-loaded from the heavy lift vessel Tracer by Teeters Agency & Stevedoring. Beyel Brothers Crane & Rigging will handle the logistics and transport of the modules to western Palm Beach County, where they will become part of a power transmission station.
The port has confirmed six more vessel loads importing through April 2008, and officials expect the equipment to keep coming over the next two years.
Meanwhile, the port recently handled a new specialty cargo outbound: a shipment of large royal palm trees destined to Angola as part of a community development project. Some 3,000 of the trees, valued at $500 each, were loaded onto the BCC EMS by Teeters Agency & Stevedoring. The locally grown trees arrived on about 100 flatbed trucks and were then lifted directly onto the vessel.
