Port of Santos container volumes top 1.2 million TEUs The Port of Santos in Brazil said its container volume for the first six months of 2007 increased by 6.4 percent to 1.22 million TEUs.
   Container traffic totaled 13.1 million tons for the first half. Domestic cargo from the coastwise services, while generating only 1.4 million tons, was up 27 percent from the same period in 2006 and has nearly doubled since 2005, officials noted.
   Santos' overall cargo tonnage was up 10.5 percent to 38.9 million tons. Sugar is the port's leading export cargo, and volumes increased 10.5 percent to 5.7 million tons.
   Import tonnage — which is lead by bulk cargoes including coal, fertilizer and wheat — were up 19.6 percent to 13.1 million tons. The port's export tonnage climbed 6.4 percent to 25.8 million tons.
