Port of Savannah adds four cranes

Port of Savannah adds four cranes The Georgia Ports Authority said four new super post-Panamax cranes arrived at the Port of Savannah Tuesday for use at the Garden City Terminal.
   The cranes, which will be able to handle vessels with up to 22 rows of containers, were designed in Finland and fabricated in China, were ordered two years ago from Konecranes.
   “The new cranes will play a major role in enhancing productivity and capacity necessary to handle the growing volume of cargo at Savannah,” said GPA’s Executive Director Doug J. Marchand.
   The port authority plans to more than double the throughput capacity at the Garden City Terminal to 6.5 million TEU by 2015. Last year Savannah handled 2.6 million TEUs.
