Port of Stockton fire still under investigation

Port of Stockton fire still under investigation Stockton officials continue to investigate last week's fire in a structure covering a bulk product conveyor belt at the Port of Stockton.
   The fire broke out late July 25, and despite a quick knockdown by Stockton firefighters, managed to destroy part of a port structure near the so-called 'ore dock' in the port. The burned structure covered a conveyor system used to transport bulk sulphur, a major commodity at the port. There was no reported damage to the conveyor system. Vegetation along an adjacent and unused railroad track was also consumed.
   No one was injured in the blaze, which port officials describes as a minor incident, but traffic along adjacent Interstate 5 slowed as clouds of black smoke billowed up from the fire.
