Port of Tanjung Pelepas orders more cranes

The port of Tanjung Pelepas, Malaysia’s big transshipment container hub, has ordered three “super post-Panamax” quay container cranes and 15 rubber-tired yard cranes from manufacturer Impsa to deploy at the port’s new “phase 2” development site.

Super post-Panamax quay cranes are ship-to-shore cranes able to handle a containership that is 16 containers wide or wider.

The ship-to-shore quayside cranes will be the largest the port of Tanjung Pelepas has operated to date. They are expected to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2005.

Delivery of the 15 new rubber-tired yard cranes is expected in the second quarter of 2005.

The port of Tanjung Pelepas currently operates 24 “super post-Panamax” quay cranes and 57 rubber-tired yard cranes.
