Port of Tauranga pilots to strike

The Port of Tauranga said Wednesday it has been notified by the Merchant Services Guild, which represents pilots employed by the New Zealand port, that its members intend to go on strike for two weeks, starting May 8.

The port said that the action is being taken in relation to bargaining for the renewal of the pilots’ collective agreement and salary claim, which seeks parity with pilot rates paid in Australia, representing a claim of almost 40 percent over existing pay rates.
