Port of Thunder Bay to undergo upgrades

The Canadian government is investing C$7.5 million in transportation infrastructure at the Great Lakes port.    The Canadian government is investing C$7.5 million (U.S. $5.7 million) in transportation infrastructure at the Port of Thunder Bay along Lake Superior.
   The funding is being made available through Canada’s National Trade Corridors Fund.
   The investment will go toward adding tracks and laydown areas for cargo staging and transshipment to respond to increased demand as well as building a 4,645-square-meter multipurpose heated facility to suit requirements of terminal users, Transport Canada said.
   The Port of Thunder Bay said it is served by Canadian National and Canadian Pacific, as well as major Canadian trucking companies. The port has the largest grain storage capacity in North America, and although grain is the primary cargo handled at the port, it also handles coal, potash, other dry bulk, liquid bulk and general cargo.
