Port of Virginia receives hybrid shuttle carriers

Kalmar delivered the first real hybrid shuttle carriers in the United States to the Virginia International Gateway terminal in Portsmouth, Va.

Cargo handling machinery maker Cargotec announced its subsidiary Kalmar delivered three hybrid shuttle carriers ordered by the Port of Virginia in late 2014 to the Virginia International Gateway terminal in Portsmouth, Va.
The new shuttles have now been in operation at the terminal since last week and are the first real hybrid shuttle carriers in the United States, Port of Virginia spokesman Joe Harris said.
The hybrid shuttle carriers feature stability, safety and maneuverability features, including active stability control as a standard and a redesigned drive and steering, which allows the machine to move diagonally in crab mode and around its vertical axis to enhance operational performance, Cargotec said.
Kalmar offers cargo handling solutions and services to ports, terminals, distribution centers and to heavy industry with 5,200 employees across 30 countries as of the end of 2014.
