Javier Rodriguez, the Florida Department of Transportation point man on the Miami Port Tunnel project, has been selected as the executive director of the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority.

The MDX board Tuesday selected Rodriguez from among three finalists for the job. Rodriguez has been serving as district director of transportation for the Miami office of the FDOT, giving him oversight for the port tunnel project. He has also been involved in such high-profile projects as the development of the Miami Intermodal Center near Miami International Airport, and the widening of U.S. Highway 1 into the Florida Keys.

The MDX controls the five east-west toll roads in Miami-Dade County. The advertised salary range for the position was $175,000 to $225,000.
