Ports of Auckland hit by strikes In the middle of a 48-hour strike by 265 port staff, Ports of Auckland has received a further strike notice from the Maritime Union of New Zealand Local 13 (MUNZ) for Oct. 17.
   This notice is the fourth received in the last few weeks by the New Zealand port from MUNZ seeking better pay and conditions.
   The Oct. 17 action would last from 10 a.m. until 1:15 p.m. as did one on Sept. 11 and another planned for Oct. 9. The current two-day strike started at 7 a.m. Wednesday.
   'This situation with rolling strikes is unacceptable and impacts all of our customers and New Zealand's international trade,” said Ports of Auckland Managing Director Jens Madsen. 'We will continue to work in good faith to identify a solution and will work to ensure that the shorter three hour and 15-minute strikes have minimal impact on port operations.”
