PSA, COSCO Pacific volumes soar

PSA, COSCO Pacific volumes soar    Two of the world’s-largest port operators, PSA International and COSCO Pacific, both reported double-digit container throughput growth in the first half of 2006.
   Singapore state-owned PSA International handled 24.41 million TEUs globally in the first six months of 2006, up 28.6 percent year-on-year.
   PSA’s flagship Singapore terminals posted a 4.2 percent rise in volume to 11.39 million TEUs, from 10.93 million TEUs a year ago. In contrast, PSA’s terminals in Europe, China and other parts of Asia witnessed a 61.9 percent surge to 13.02 million TEUs, compared to 8.04 million TEUs in the same period 2005.
   COSCO Pacific’s box volumes jumped 23.5 percent to 14.97 million TEUs in the first half 2006, from 12.13 million TEUs last year.
