Puerto Rico company turning tires into tiles

A company in Puerto Rico is converting used tires into rubber tiles that will be shipped to the U.S. and the Caribbean islands'and perhaps beyond.

   Puerto Rico Governor Anibal Acevedo Vila presided over ceremonies launching the new venture on Tuesday. The company, Sofscape Caribe, will be processing about 1,000 tires a day to be converted into rubber tiles for playground and equestrian events.

   The company, based in Vega Baja in northern Puerto Rico, estimates it will generate revenues of $7.7 million a year, according to a report in the Miami Herald.
