Pup found in Port Everglades container survived sea voyage

A three-month-old dog that came bounding out of a container full of tiles shipped from Maracaibo, Venezuela, was rescued at Port Everglades Tuesday, according to a report in the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Workers who opened the container said the dog was fed two helpings of chicken, then turned over to the Broward County Animal Care and Regulation Division. The female pup had apparently survived the six-day voyage from Venezuela to Florida in the container.

The report said the dog was later taken to the West Palm Beach-based animal rescue group Chesed Foundation, where a vet administered intravenous feeding.

The foundation's Bobbi Miller said the dog would be boarded with the vet pending adoption.
