Qantas lets go of 90 senior managers

Australian airline Qantas last week said it laid off 90 senior managers to reduce overhead amidst sagging passenger and cargo demand.

The carrier will also maintain a salary freeze and restructure the roles of the remaining managers.

“Qantas must respond decisively to what is happening, and our response must begin with those of us who lead the company,' said Alan Joyce, Qantas chief executive officer, in a statement. 'Starting today, we will be making some longer term organizational changes to the management of the Qantas Group to develop a leaner, more fast-moving organization.”
