Qatar Airways orders 5 more 777 Freighters in $6.1 billion deal

Qatar Airways has ordered 30 787 “Dreamliners” passenger aircraft and five 777 Freighters from Boeing in a combined deal valued at more than $6.1 billion at list prices.

The two companies held a signing ceremony on Sunday at the Dubai Air Show to mark the order. The aircraft were previously listed on Boeing’s orders and deliveries Web site as unidentified.

The new order for the 777Fs adds to the two ordered by the Middle East airline last year.

So far, 12 customers have ordered 82 of the 777Fs, which are scheduled to enter service in the fourth quarter of 2008.

“We look forward to utilizing our new Boeing airplanes so that we can further enhance service to our passengers, while also playing a pivotal role in the economic development of the State of Qatar through expanded and optimized cargo operations,” said Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways’ chief executive officer.
