QE2 to become floating hotel

Cunard said it has sold the Queen Elizabeth 2 cruise ship to a government-owned firm in Dubai for $100 million and that the ship will be turned into a floating luxury hotel.

The 70,000-ton vessel will be based at the Palm Jumeirah development in Dubai, the world’s largest artificial island.

QE2 will be delivered in November 2008, where she will cease her role as an oceangoing passenger vessel. The ship was first launched on September 1967 and is the longest-serving ship in Cunard’s 168-year history.
