The first customer to process shipments using the new connectivity is customs broker and freight forwarder DT Gruelle.
QuestaWeb is providing the connectivity via WIN, a cloud-based solution designed to provide global connectivity for independent freight forwarders, particularly for participation in industry initiatives such as e-freight and Cargo 2000.
“The single porthole offered by WIN for filing e-AWB has allowed QuestaWeb a simple low cost solution to a complex problem,” said Christopher Springer, QuestaWeb’s director of customer service. “Now, rather than linking to each airline individually, users of QuestaWeb’s Export Freight Forwarding and Exporter applications are able to link to a spectrum of air carriers. Efficiency and transparency have been gained through the ability to instantly communicate with the airlines and process a myriad of responses as QuestaWeb publishable statuses.”
The e-AWB program has been fostered by the International Air Transport Association with the aim of eventually eliminating paper air waybills. IATA has a goal of 22 percent of air waybills being generating electronically by the end of 2014, 45 percent by the end of 2015, and 80 percent by the end of 2016.
“We use 36 airlines, and are expecting to streamline our air export processing and go paperless with as many as we can while benefiting from reduced manual processing fees,” said Marco Gruelle, DT Gruelle’s export manager.
