RailAmerica’s April carloads down 6.6%
RailAmerica Inc., a holding company for 42 short-line railroads operating on about 7,800 track miles in the United States and Canada, said its freight carloads dropped 6.6 percent in April to 104,651 from 111,993 in the same month 2005.
“Eleven out of 14 commodity groups had decreased shipments in April. The 5,792 carload decrease was driven primarily by lower shipments of metals,
paper products and chemicals,” RailAmerica said.
For the year to date, RailAmerica’s total carloads are down 2.1 percent to 432,644 from 441,871 in the same period 2005.
