The port handled 180,384 TEUs in July, an 8 percent increase from July 2011. Year-to-date, the port has handled nearly 1.2 million TEUs, an increase of 5.8 percent from the corresponding period in 2011.
Total rail containers handled in July grew 22.5 percent year-on-year to 32,941 units, with year-to-date rail containers up 13.8 percent to 212,689 units.
The number of containers moved between the Port of Richmond and the Hampton Roads Harbor on the 64 Express barge service in July was 401, an increase of 30.6 percent. Year-to-date volume on the barge service is up 95.8 percent at 5,198 containers.
Breakbulk volume fell 23.7 percent in July to 24,377 tons. For the year, breakbulk tonnage has increased 5.6 percent to 212,698 tons.
