Recycler buys Long Beach-based scrap metal operation

Recycler buys Long Beach-based scrap metal operation Anaheim, Calif.-based SA Recycling has acquired the scrap metal firm Pacific Coast Recycling from Japan-based Mitsui & Co. Financial details were not disclosed.
   PCR, according to published reports, ships about 1 million metric tons of metal a year. It operates seven facilities in Southern California, including a corporate headquarters at its scrap metal terminal at the Port of Long Beach's Berth 118 on Pier T. Other facilities are located in El Monte, Rancho Cucamonga, Fontana, South Gate, Montebello and San Diego. Operations range from purchase and sale of ferrous and non-ferrous metals to the shipment of material to and from the individual facilities.
   SA Recycling, a joint venture between Sims Group Ltd. and Adams Steel, which includes a Port of Los Angeles marine terminal, handles about 2 million metric tons of ferrous scrap and nearly 100,000 metric tons of non-ferrous scrap annually. Annual revenues of the joint venture are about $600 million.
   North Sydney, Australia-based Sims Group operates 120 metal recycling sites across Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States. Sims and Anaheim-based Adams Steel completed an asset merger in November 2007 to form the joint venture.
   Last year, Sims also acquired U.S. metals recycler Metal Management Inc., making Sims the world's largest listed metals recycler.
