The parcel, which has been undergoing a $1.6 million environmental cleanup, was vacated by a petroleum company in 1995, and has generating no income for the small Bay area port since.
Port officials are seeking public comment through April 13 on a plan to lease half the site to Eagle Rock Aggregates Inc., a subsidiary of the Polaris Minerals Corp. based in British Columbia.
According to InsideBayArea.com, the proposed terminal would handle up to 1.5 million tons of imported aggregates a year, storing the material on site to await truck transport to Bay Area customers. Eagle Rock, which could begin operations as early as 2008, would pay rent and other fees to the port, generating an estimated $600,000 a year for the port.
Port officials plan to have other industrial tenants occupy the rest of the former Gibson site.
