As commander, Reilly will be responsible for a fleet of more than 120 government-owned and chartered ships, as well as a workforce of more than 10,000 civil service and military personnel operating worldwide.
The Military Sealift Command transports fuel, supplies and ammunitions to U.S. Navy ships underway and to American military forces stationed abroad.
Reilly, a 31-year Navy veteran, comes to the Military Sealift Command from the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington, where he reported in June 2004 and served as deputy assistant chief of naval operations for information technology.
Reilly replaces Vice Adm. David L. Brewer III, who will retire after 36 years of naval service. Brewer assumed command of the Military Sealift Command in August 2001.
