The executive committee said in a statement it “proposes to the supervisory board to accept the decision in the near future.”

Zumwinkel offered his resignation in the midst of tax fraud investigation that is reportedly looking at the transfer of funds by wealthy individuals in Germany to foundations in the tax haven of Liechtenstein.

The Financial Times said insiders believe Frank Appel, the group’s head of logistics, is likely to take over the top spot at Deutsche Post, whose major subsidiaries include DHL, the German Post Office, and Deutsche Postbank, one of Germany’s major financial services companies.
