Report: Eimskip places order for up to six newbuild containerships

The Icelandic ocean carrier has entered into an agreement to purchase three 2,200-TEU ice-class vessels from Guangzhou Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard in China, with an option for three more, according to report from maritime news outlet Splash 24/7.    Icelandic ocean carrier Eimskip Ltd. has placed orders for three 2,200-TEU ice-class vessels from state-owned Guangzhou Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard in China, with an option for three more, according to report from maritime news outlet Splash 24/7.
   The three firm orders will be delivered in late 2018 and early 2019, and the options will be available for delivery in 2019 as well. Financial terms of the order were not disclosed.
   The reports follow Eimskip’s purchase of asset-light Norwegian shipping and logistics company Nor Lines for 15 million euros (U.S. $16.6 million) in November 2016.
   Company officials said at the time, the Nor Lines purchase, which included a fleet of five containerships (four owned and one chartered) and a land-side network of 60 owned and agent-operated terminals, would allow it to broaden and strengthen the scope of its value-added service offerings.
