REPORT: INTRA-ASIA BOX TRADES TOTALS 18 MILLION TEUS

   The intra-Asia container trades totaled about 18 million TEUs, according to a report by Drewry Shipping Consultants.

   These regional trades, including those connecting the Far East, South Asia and the Middle East, account for 26 percent of the world container trade, the report said.

   By comparison, east-west trades represented about 29 million TEUs (41 percent of world trade) and north-south trades were worth 17 million TEUs (24 percent) in 2001, according to estimates of Drewry.
