Report: Port of Itajai closed for bad weather

Import and export operations at the Brazil seaport have been halted due to strong winds and rains, negatively affecting refrigerated cargo for many local and international shippers, reports Reuters news service.

Brazil’s Itajai port has been closed for over a week due to bad weather, according to reports from multiple news outlets.
Strong winds and rain have closed loadings at Itajai, causing meat exports to drop. Leading poultry export company BRF SA in Brazil estimates a cut of 25,000 metric tons in meat products as a result of the closures, reported Reuters.
The South American seaport is close to several BRF facilities in the Santa Catarina state in Brazil and also acts as a hub for refrigerated containers, truckers and warehouse space.
As of Wednesday, 11 vessels were waiting to berth as port operations were halted on both import and export fronts, said Reuters.
