Retiring U.S. Air Force Gen. Handy joins Horizon Lines

   U.S. Air Force General John W. Handy, retiring Commander of the U.S. Transportation Command and the U.S. Air Mobility Command has joined Horizon Lines in an unspecified role.

   Handy retired from the Air Force on Wednesday, following a 39-year career. He has served for over four years as Commanding General of USTRANSCOM, the single transportation manager for air, land and sea transportation for the Department of Defense.

   In his new role he will work directly with Charles G. Raymond, chairman, president and chief executive officer at Charlotte, N.C.-based Horizon Lines.

   Horizon Lines operates sixteen U.S.-flag ships and manages nine other vessels for various branches of the U.S. government.
