Riley, former Safmarine U.S. executive, dies
Capt. Robin Edwards Riley, 68, a former president of Safmarine Inc., died Aug. 29.
Riley was born in South Africa in 1940 and graduated from General Botha Marine Academy. During his seagoing career he served from cadet to master with Safmarine. In 1972 he transferred to the Safmarine USA headquarters in New York as a marine superintendent.
He opened and ran the Baltimore office of Safmarine from 1975 to 1983. He then returned to the New York office where he eventually became president of Safmarine Inc., before retiring in 1999. In 2000, he moved to Warren Hill Farm in Scottsville, Va.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Anne, and their children Michael, Steven, and Elizabeth.
