Roadway attributed the decline to continued weakness in the economy, which has reduced business levels, particularly in the less-than-truckload portion of the company’s business.
The decline will negatively impact results, with the company’s operating ratio expected to drop by about 1.5 percent of revenue, Roadway said.
Earnings are projected to be 60-70 percent below those of the second quarter of 2000, when Roadway earned $0.52 per share.
