Russian Railways to buy 221 Siemens locomotives
The Russian Railways has signed an agreement with Urals Locomotives, a joint venture set up by Sinara Group and Siemens, to buy 221 electric freight locomotives.
The first prototypes of the new locomotives are to be ready by December. In 2011, after the full testing and certification process, 11 locomotives will be delivered to the Russian Railways.
As part of the agreement, the companies also signed a plan for localizing production of Siemens components in Russia.
