S.C.-Ga. port announcement expected Friday
Details on the new port that Georgia and South Carolina are planning to jointly develop on the Savannah River in Jasper County, S.C., are scheduled to be announced Friday during a press conference in Savannah.
Bert Brantley, press secretary for Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue, said a briefing is scheduled for Friday outside the Savannah International Trade Center.
The South Carolina Department of Commerce said last week that the two states had “finalized” negotiations on the new port.
The 1,500-acre site is on the north side of the Savannah River in South Carolina, across the river and downstream from the Georgia Port Authority’s docks.
In March, Perdue and South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford announced the plan to develop the port and set up a task force to work out details on how to proceed.
