All truck transactions – including empty and chassis moves – will require trucking companies to obtain a gate code in advance and provide it to their drayage driver, the port authority said in a service advisory.
Trucking companies create the gate codes through GO!Port, a web-based application and the driver enters the code on in a kiosk erected at each lane. Each equipment move requires a gate code, so a driver entering with an empty container and picking up a loaded container will need two gate codes.
The SCPA plans to roll out the advance gate system at its marine terminals in Charleston later this year.
