South Africa’s shipping group Safmarine has agreed to sell its non-liner
shipping interests to Capital Finance SA, a company controlled by the
Restis family of Greece.
The businesses involved are the Safbulk and Safore bulk shipping
activities; a 40-percent share in Unicorn Lines; and 50-percent interests
in the reefer shipping operator Unicool/Cool Carriers, in Container Fruit
Terminal in Cape Town, and in Pentow Marine, the marine services provider
to the offshore industry.
The Restis family controls 33 reefer vessels and through Athens-based
Enterprises Shipholding Corp. is a major independent reefer operator.
Safmarine has already announced the proposed sale of its liner shipping
activities to Denmark’s A. P. Moller/Maersk shipping group.
