Safmarine upgrades Safari loops Safmarine Container Lines is adding larger ships and changing the port rotations on its two weekly Asia/South Africa Safari loops.
   From April and May, the services will introduce another two new 4,150-TEU ships and twice-weekly calls in Greater China, thanks to the inclusion of an additional, direct call at the Port of Ningbo on the Safari 1.
   The Safari 1 currently uses eight ships calling Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Port Louis, Tanjung Pelepas, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Louis and back to Durban. As of April 8, the service will deploy seven vessels with a rotation of Durban, Cape Town, Port Louis, Tanjung Pelepas, Yantian, Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas and Durban.
   The Safari 2 now uses five vessels with a rotation of Port Elizabeth, Durban, Singapore, Tanjung Pelepas and Port Elizabeth. From mid-May, the service will use six ships calling Port Elizabeth, Durban, Hong Kong, Tanjung Pelepas, Port Louis and Port Elizabeth.
   Safmarine’s sister company Maersk Line is a partner on the services. Both A.P. Moller-Maersk lines will from mid-April be starting two 10-vessel strings between Asia, South Africa and the East Coast of South America in joint services with Hamburg Sud and NYK.
