SAIR CARGO UNIT REPORTS LOSS FROM OPERATIONS

SAirLogistics, the air cargo subsidiary of airline company SAirGroup,
reported a 13-million Swiss franc loss ($8.6 million) for the first six
months of the year, compared to a CHF25 million profit last year.
Operating revenue fell 3.1 percent to CHF621 million.
SAirGroup said the decline was mainly due to slow business at
SAirLogistics’ main operating unit, Swisscargo, which manages the freight capacity of
several airlines, including Swissair, Sabena and City Bird.
Cargo carried by Swisscargo fell 2.9 percent to 353,085 metric tons,
reflecting this year’s poor air freight market. The unit "had a
particularly tough time, facing both substantial yield declines and a steep
falloff in traffic from the U.S. and on Europe-to-Asia routes," SAirGroup said.
