Saltchuk names Coakley VP, government affairs

   Christopher A. Coakley has been named vice president, government affairs at Saltchuk Resources.
   Coakley, who is based in Washington, D.C., will represent Saltchuk’s interests at the federal level and will coordinate the company’s public policy efforts nationwide. He will also be Saltchuk’s representative on the executive committee of the American Maritime Partnership, a trade organization for operators of Jones Act ships.
   Saltchuk, headquartered in Seattle, Wash., is a privately-owned family of more than 20 diversified companies principally engaged in the transportation, fuel distribution, and real estate industries. They include Sea Star Line, Totem Ocean Trailer Express, Foss Maritime, Hawaiian Tug and Barge, and Young Brothers.
   On a consolidated basis, Saltchuk has $1.6 billion of assets, $2.2 billion of annual revenues, and 7,500 employees.
   Coakley joins Saltchuk from his most recent position as vice president of legislative affairs for the American Waterways Operators, an industry association representing the U.S. tugboat, towboat, and barge industry.
