Samskip joins Rotterdam/Oslo route of DFDS
Iceland’s Samskip will enters its new 803-TEU vessel “Samskip Express” on the twice-weekly Rotterdam/Oslo Fjord route in a joint service agreement with Denmark’s DFDS Lys Line, effective Jan. 1.
Samskip said the introduction of the vessel, one in a series of six specially designed to carry 45-foot pallet-wide containers, will boost capacity on the Norwegian trade by about 10 percent.
“Placing our own ship on the Oslo route is an important step on the way to expanding Samskip’s Scandinavian and Baltic operations,” said Birna 'defors, Samskip’s managing director, in a statement.
“‘Samskip Express’ becomes the largest ship operating for us in this region but we are sure she will be joined by similar or larger vessels in the not too distant future. We are committed to expanding our short-sea door-to-door business and taking more trucks off northern Europe’s crowded roads,” 'defors said.
