Samskip takes delivery of new ship

Reykjavik-based Samskip took delivery of the 908-TEU vessel “Helgafell” in Hamburg Feb. 25.

The vessel replaces Samskip’s older vessel of the same name sailing between Iceland and Europe.

Both “Helgafell” and its sister ship “Arnarfell”, which was delivered to Samskip last month, were built by German shipbuilder JJ Sietas at a cost of ISK 1.7 billion ($28 million).

Samskip said the introduction of the new vessels more than doubles its capacity between Iceland and continental Europe.
