Savannah adds terminal gate capacity

Savannah adds terminal gate capacity

The port of Savannah opened the “gate 3” complex to truck traffic Thursday, increasing gate capacity by more than 50 percent.

The seven-month project allows the port’s Garden City Terminal to offer a total of 60 lanes. The gates are open between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday-Friday, and weekend gates are available as needed, the Georgia Ports Authority said.

“The new complex will further enhance truck turn times in and out of the container yard, reduce air emissions and prepare for future growth,” the port authority said.

The new gate complex is equipped with Navis software that continuously tracks containers throughout the terminal.

Container Berth 8, a new project that will expand overall capacity at the port of Savannah, is also moving forward.
