SBS starts 3 China-to-NY LCL services

   U.K.-based freight forwarder SBS Worldwide has started three new direct consolidation services with weekly departures from Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Shanghai to New York.
   “Most weekly consolidation services from China to the U.S. tranship via Hong Kong,” SBS Group Chairman Steve Walker said. “By offering our customers consolidation services directly from Shenzhen and Shanghai directly to New York we are able to remove a transport leg, which reduces lead times and makes the service more cost efficient.”
   The new services also reduce the risk of cargo being damaged during transport as product is only handled once at origin, compared with services that tranship via Hong Kong where cargo needs to be re-loaded, the company said.
   SBS is also considering the possibility of launching other new direct consolidation services from China to the United States. In addition to New York, the forwarder operates other hubs in Chicago, Atlanta and Los Angeles.
