The logistics services company Schenker has opened a new European logistics center in Germany, allowing the company to provide more flexible distribution options to customers.
The new logistics center will be able to accept inbound cargo as late as 8 p.m. at its location in Friedewald, North Hesse in Germany and have it delivered to locations in Germany and parts of the immediate surrounding countries the next day. All European locations can be reached within a maximum time of 72 hours.
The logistics center is located immediately adjacent to Schenker's central hub, and can offer flexible, customized logistics for pan-European procurement or distribution from one site, the company said.
The center has storage space for more than 11,000 euro pallets in high-bay storage racks in an area of approximately 12,000 square meters. Other goods can be stored in a 4,500-square-meter block storage area. There is also a 900-square-meter safety zone for sensitive goods that has video surveillance, an alarm system and sprinkler systems.
Schenker's central hub has daily links with France, Slovenia, Belgium, Denmark, Italy, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Switzerland, Slovakia, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
Schenker is part of the Transportation and Logistics Division of Deutsche Bahn AG, the German rail and transportation services group.
