Schenker, Siemens start new contract logistics venture

   Siemens Procurement & Logistics Services, the logistics and supply chain unit of German manufacturer Siemens AG, and Schenker AG, a provider of logistics services, have formed a joint venture intended to pool warehouse management operations for spare parts, promotional material and production logistics.

   The new company, Schenker Industrial Logistics GmbH, has 300 employees, 175 of whom have been taken on from Siemens, at 17 locations in Germany. The joint venture started operations with a business volume of 30 million euros, Schenker said in a statement.

   Schenker expects the joint venture to build on a customer base that includes Siemens, Infineon, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, DaimlerChrysler and ThyssenKrupp.
