Schering-Plough expanding Miami-Dade facility The international pharmaceutical company Schering-Plough Corp. will expand its manufacturing facility in Miami Lakes, building out an additional 10,000 square feet at its existing building to meet increasing product demand.
   The facility in Miami-Dade County is used for manufacturing, packaging, warehousing and office space in support of the New Jersey-based company's operations in South Florida, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
   Schering-Plough is a research-based pharmaceutical and health care company that produces prescription, consumer and animal health care products. It has operations in several U.S. locations, as well as in Puerto Rico, Mexico, Panama, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
   The company has attracted attention as an example of the growing life sciences industry in Miami-Dade County. Officials from the Beacon Council, a county, public-private agency for promoting economic development, assisted Schering-Plough by providing a    package of business contacts, referrals, and state and local incentives to encourage the expansion, according to officials at the Beacon Council.
   'Miami is home to world-class life science research institutions and companies such as Schering-Plough,' said Miami-Dade County Commissioner Natacha Seijas, whose district includes the Schering-Plough facility. 'It is important for our community to back and encourage the ongoing development of this industry, which will only make our Miami-Dade economy stronger and more diversified.'
