Schlumberger to pay $232.7 million for illicit exports

A U.S. District Court in Washington said the fine relates to Schlumberger Oilfield Holdings Ltd.’s illicit exports to Iran and Sudan.    A U.S. District Court in Washington last week ordered Schlumberger Oilfield Holdings Ltd., a subsidiary of Schlumberger Ltd., to pay a $232,708,356 penalty to the United States for conspiring to carry out illegal transactions and trade with Iran and Sudan, according to the Justice Department.
   At a hearing on April 30, District Judge John D. Bates accepted Schlumberger’s guilty plea to violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) and sentenced the company based on the proposed plea agreement, which called for the fine.
   The plea agreement also requires Schlumberger Oilfield Holdings to submit to a three-year corporate probation.
