Schumer calls for FAA investigation
New York Sen. Chuck Schumer is calling for an investigation of the Federal Aviation Administration in the wake of reports of several near-miss collisions at airports in the New York region.
Schumer, reacting to reports that pilots have reported seven near-miss incidents this year, said at a press conference Monday that the agency needs to be “turned inside-out.”
Press reports say there have been five near misses alone in May at three New York area airports, Newark Liberty, JFK and Stewart.
A near miss is considered to be any incident in which aircraft are less than 500 feet from each other.
