Schumer urges FRA to probe CSX

Schumer urges FRA to probe CSX Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., called Wednesday for a joint federal probe to investigate recent accidents by CSX trains in New York, the Associated Press reports.
   The most recent incident was Monday's crash in Oneida, when a CSX train, transporting propane and some toxic materials from Buffalo to Selkirk, derailed and caught fire. The cleanup continued into Wednesday with responders burning excess propane and taking special measures to clean toxic materials, the AP said. No one was hurt in the accident, but thousands were forced to evacuate.
   The cause of the accident is still unknown and there is no established timeline to reopen the track.
   This was the fifth derailment by a CSX train since December. Twenty-three crashes by have caused $2.3 million in damage in the past six years, urging Schumer to call for a joint investigation by the NTSB, Federal Railroad Administration, and Department of Homeland Security.
   CSX and the FRA say records show improvement in safety over the last year. CSX has also spent $1.4 billing on infrastructure to make sure accidents are not repeated, according to AP.
